Airing Grievances

Dear Protesters, Ones in Opposition, and Generally Ornery People:

You have the right to say whatever you want. I will not deny you that. One thing that I want to say, however, is that I think you are ridiculously pathetic when you bring your children into your fight. If you are upset about this, that, and the other, please leave your children elsewhere. Their place is not on the street corner holding a piece of posterboard with some oh-so-clever sentiment that you came up with.

You’re an adult. They are children. Stop using them to fight your fight.

Thanks.

There have been times when I have been tempted to go to a protest or political event and dress my kids up or hold signs. Then I realized how stupid that was. They have no idea what I am talking about or protesting.

It was like the time at a meeting where there was an issue with a big-box store coming to town. A little girl of 7 or so gets up and asks everyone who was against this store to stand up. She was cute, but did she have any idea what she was doing? Her parents did by exploiting her.
